What are you here for?

I know. It's kind of a big question. Lately, I have been imagining myself walking on the streets of Everytown, USA with my microphone--Asking---"What are you here for? What is yours to do while you are here?" (while I point to the ball in my hand that looks like the earth). As a roving reporter, I want to get people thinking. What if you are here for a short time to be the the "YOU-iest YOU" you can be? What if status and achievement don't matter at all compared to living out your life purpose?

If I got to your block, would you have an answer? Would you have YOUR answer? For some, this question might stop them in their tracks. Their thought might be, "Well, I know it is NOT what I am doing right now." Many people are in jobs that are not fulfilling or meaningful to them. For many of us, getting a job that makes us good money wins over doing what you love. And sometimes, it is a flat out necessity.

But WHAT IF the real question is bigger than 'what do you do to earn a living'?

WHAT IF it is something like:

What is your heart's greatest desire?
What is your heart's greatest desire?
What is your soul's purpose>
What is your soul's purpose>

What makes your heart sing?
What makes your heart sing?

Unlike "what do you do for a living?", "What are you here for?" speaks to the soul. It is about what brings you delight and "oh-I-can't-sleep" excitement. Knowing this makes your inner child jump up and down clapping; its like learning that "Santa is real"! . And when found, it feels right and smooth and flow-y inside--like butter.

It is worth searching for and taking the time needed to find it. This means learning how to listen inside to your own heart before you can begin to know your answer. I have a bold statement---we are all here to seek and live from our hearts desire; and by so doing, make our unique contribution to the WORLD. Those of us raised Catholic might feel an internal "what!? that's selfish". Others may say, "that sounds nice but I have to pay the bills".

By living from your heart's desire, you make a contribution to the world that only you can make. Author, Frederick Beuchner said, "The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet". Yes, your calling is what the world needs most. When you find it, it's like magic on earth.

And as if that wasn't enough, your living from your heart's desire is just what everyone around you needs too! By living from your heart and trusting in your calling, you impact people around you. They feel a little flow-y and like butter, too. And as if by osmosis, they try to start living their life from their heart too. It's like floating in a wide river carried by the current---they want to grab their inner tube and join you. "Imagine all the people..."----John Lennon
